LEADING THE INDUSTRY – A YEAR OF MILESTONES
We’re back with another Winvic Word and 2024 has been a year that we’re particularly proud of. There’s been cause for celebration in all three of our key sectors and many exciting new project opportunities have arisen because we are in the perfect position to leverage expertise from one sector to innovate and benefit another. Winvic’s agility has also been called upon in relation to a whole host of industry updates – from the Building Safety Act to UK Net Zero Carbon Building Standard (UKNZCBS) – and assuming the role of educator and advisor has been welcomed by our clients.

Our reputation, especially when it comes to sustainable construction, precedes us and our Green Supply Chain partnerships and client base has expanded in the last twelve months. And in our quest to push the boundaries within sustainability, safety and efficiency we’ve continued to adopt new up-to-the-minute technologies that are not just game changers for Winvic, but for the whole industry.

Whether you’re interested in our exciting Industrial, Multi-room or Civils and Infrastructure projects or our Sustainability and ESG successes, sit back and enjoy Winvic Word.
INDUSTRIAL
100 MILLION SQ FT OF INDUSTRIAL SPACE CONSTRUCTED
In August 2024, the start of a new project marked a special milestone in our 23-year history. GLP’s 761,000 sq ft facility at one of Europe’s premier logistics locations, Magna Park in Lutterworth, takes Winvic to the milestone of having constructed 100 million sq ft of industrial space. We’re incredibly proud of this unparalleled landmark, which strengthens our position as the leading main contractor in the industrial sector.
If this wasn’t significant enough, it is the first time that Winvic has partnered with client GLP, and the project is also the largest speculative unit that GLP has brought forward to date. We commenced with enabling earthworks and service installations at the MPN 761 project and the steel frame was completed in the first week of December, which included a steel member signed by the client, project team and local councillors at a celebratory ceremony. We’re also providing employment opportunities to young people at MPN 761 as part of our social value activities on this project, and you can read more about them and the facility we’re constructing on page 6.

Danny Nelson, Managing Director for Industrial, Distribution and Logistics
“MPN 761 has become a special project for three reasons; it marks Winvic’s construction of 100 million square foot of industrial space, it’s GLP’s largest ever speculative unit and it has brought the start of a new and exciting contractor-client relationship. I’d like to thank GLP for appreciating our industrial sector expertise and ESG credentials, and for appointing us on this next phase at Magna Park.”
MULTI-ROOM 10,000 BEDS HANDED OVER TO OUR MULTI-ROOM CLIENTS
On 1 March 2024, we announced not only the completion of Crown Place Nottingham, but also the news that the final handover marked the milestone of 10,000 beds constructed. The total is made up from a total of 29 projects – either Build-to-Rent (BTR), Purpose Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) or Hotels – across 20 clients, and our steady sector expansion has been led by Mark Jones since 2017.

In this time Mark has expanded his team from 10 to 140 individuals and increased the sector turnover from £30 million to £230 million. Mindful of adapting to ever-changing market conditions – including more recently the Building Safety Act, which you can read about on page 5 – we initially focused on PBSA projects, but then capitalised on the BTR market boom. Now 70 per cent of our Multi-room strategic focus is on BTR schemes, and you can read about some of these on page 10. The PBSA project Crown Place Nottingham was a compact site to manage, with main roads and a mosque to three boundaries. We utilised BIM Level 2 to quickly identify and resolve package clashes and this assisted in us meeting the tight two-year programme.
- Six-storeys
- Concrete frame
- 230 studios and 196 cluster flats
- 300 sq ft dining rooms
- 4,300 sq ft shared social spaces, including a gym and cinema, karaoke, games and ping pong rooms
Employment, training and on-site work experience placements were given to local people, and we exceeded the S106 employment and skills conditions that were set out by the local authority. We volunteered at Stonebridge City Farm, which delivers skill learning opportunities to over 150 local residents each week, many of whom have mental health challenges or learning disabilities.

Beds delivered

Mark Jones, Winvic’s Managing Director of Multi-room
“This significant milestone of 10,000 beds completed by Winvic across 29 Purpose Built Student Accommodation, Build-to-Rent and hotel projects, plus our extraordinary growth in the sector over the last six years stands as a clear testament to our unwavering dedication to residential excellence and innovation. Crown Place Nottingham, takes us 280 beds over the momentous figure, is an excellent example of this. We have not only used digital design but also taken a hybrid approach to the concrete frame construction, whereby off-site casting has provided factory-controlled quality and enabled a faster programme.”
CIVILS & INFRASTRUCTURE CIVILS & INFRASTRUCTURE SECTOR CONSTRUCTS 100KM OF HIGHWAYS
The third milestone that we celebrated in 2024 was the construction and maintenance of 100km of highways, and it was the second of our projects for Lincolnshire County Council – Newland, Lincoln – that took us to figure. The work was originally scheduled to end in November but, following a sustained push to deliver essential upgrades with minimal disruption and maximum benefits to nearby communities, businesses and road users, we handed the scheme over in late September.
The works in the Newland area of Lincoln was delivered under the General Works Lot in the local authority’s Highways Framework. Our place on the Framework – which you can read more about on page 9 – means we will be improving multiple highway assets, including drainage, footways, kerbs, surfacing, traffic signals and road markings over a four-year period. The project comprised replacing and upgrading existing signal equipment, carriageway surfacing, footways and drainage works as well as the construction of new traffic islands.
- 9,800 sq m of new carriageway surface was laid
- Over 4,500 tonnes of road-building materials utilised
- 275 metres of highways drainage repaired
- 100m of new drainage systems installed
- 30 new traffic signals installed
- Over a mile of new footway constructed
- 2,200 sq m of footpath asphalt laid
- 1.2km of new kerbing laid
- 575 feet of traffic signal wires and traffic signal ducting installed

Rob Cook, Winvic’s Managing Director for Civils and Infrastructure
“I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the team for their hard work and contribution to Winvic constructing and maintaining 100km highways whilst maintaining an impeccable safety record through our Doing It Right safety focus and ensuring stakeholders needs are considered. The milestone includes both private and public sector schemes and we're delighted that the Lincolnshire Country Council's Newland scheme, which took us to the significant figure, was handed over ahead of schedule. Here's to the next 100.”
